Quick sort of question. Holidays and University.

Yeah. How do I get my Sim a day off from uni? When one makes a holiday in the calendar, even a “day off work/school” holiday, they go to university classes. Cheers.

I even had sims having their final exams on Winterfest, I would actually be curious to know if there is a way to avoid it too.

I have always just had my kids go to classes, as usual. Come Christmas (Winterfest) I make certain to place a tree in the room where they offer free food. The kids take a moment between classes to decorate the tree and come the actual holiday, they open gifts over there and be sure to order the holiday food item from the worker.

As for New Year's Eve, you can have them throw a rocking dorm party complete with Keg, if you want. Just make sure it's after the last class of the day and that way everyone or most everyone should be able to attend.

That's how I have done it. Hope this helps.

Update and Experiment: It appears that if a Sim calls in "fake sick to work" then the schedule for classes voids out for that day, meaning she is likely to not go.
  • The only way I know to do it is to time enrollment so that classes will either be over or not yet have started on the holiday.
Interesting experiment @NRowe . I wonder if calling in fake sick also gives them the class progress credit for attending class, or do their grades suffer?

What is the impact on university grades? Did your sim have problems graduating?

I’ll come back when the semester is over and let you know if the grades suffered badly from the one day.

You can have an extra study session for your sim after the holiday to raise the grades. You can do it from any computer, research machine, or from a course book that corresponds to your sim's degree.

Just in case, so that one free day won't make the grades suffer much.

Yep: It does appear as if the missed day affected the grades. Of course, I had a longer university mod installed and university difficult increased with MCCC to compensate. But, she failed one course and barely passed another and that is poorer than previous semesters under similar conditions..
  • You know what it could be story-wise, is if you're a student from a minority religion or culture, or if you're attending school internationally where the holidays are different.

It does have that feeling. "It feels like it's this holiday to me, my family misses me today, but no one here celebrates my holiday, so I have to power through until it becomes their holiday and then we can all go on break"

  • I plan university terms so that they don't overlap major holidays such as Winterfest. Sometimes though, I just let sims power through the holiday. If they have time to celebrate then great but if not, I don't get too worked up. I figure that the holidays are there to be celebrated if I want and if the sims being played have time. I look at the holiday schedule before starting a term. I tend to rotate around during the short break in terms so that's when I consider if I want to be playing a uni student for a holiday or if I want to go play some other household for it.
