I had this happen many times in my dorms. Roommates have certain hidden traits, and one trait is obviously "serenading". It might be a great trigger for storytelling, but if you dislike it you can simply ignore it. I don't think the roommate has any specific ties to your sim after serenading, unless you flirt back etc.
