They work to make the product. Why is it scummy for them the ask to be paid for their efforts? I assume you have a job? Do you go to work for the fun of it? Or do you expect to be paid? Are you scummy for wanting a paycheck? Pleae explain how it is different?
OK, I have read this response several times now and I still can't get my head around the point you are actually trying to make. A game developer releasing monthly DLC isn't the same thing at all.
Yes, I do have a job and yes I am paid for my work but I don't find excuses to get my bosses to pay me more money at every opportunity. I don't constantly harass and nag my bosses to pay me more money because "Oh, I did X this week and I don't normally do X", I don't create extra work out of thin air solely so I can later claim I did it and receive more money and I don't nag my bosses for more money when I end up doing overtime to get something finished because I chose to do that willingly and I know there is no overtime pay in my contract.
As I already said, I do not expect to get anything for free because I am simply not that kind of person, if I want something then I will spend the money for it but there comes a point where the wallet has to close and this is one of those instances - for me EA are being far too aggressive with their constant DLC packs and I find it to be obnoxious. They don't have to release these premium-priced monthly packs every month, they choose to do it. It puts me off wanting to spend money on the game because, to me, it is a black hole and a money pit.
I feel as though there is simply no need for EA to do this and I look down on ANY developer who decides to follow this kind of model for their premium-priced AAA titles.
If other people don't mind this kind of heavy DLC schedule then that's cool by me and I certainly don't begrudge anyone who wants to buy these packs, but for me personally I find it obnoxious, scummy and greedy.
But you DO expect your employer to continue to pay you. You would never accept being told that you had been paid once, but were still expected to continue to work and produce without further payment.
As far as working 60-80 hours a week with no time off (you know this how?) is a choice that an employee makes. Last time I checked, slavery is still illegal in the United States.
How much did you pay for your froo froo coffee this morning? Bypass two of those and you are nearly at the cost of a stuff pack.
My "froo froo" coffee this morning cost nothing because I don't buy them, but thank you so much for making shallow assumptions about my character and what I choose to spend my money on without knowing the first thing about me. Quite frankly what I determine to be worth my money is my business but hey ho, one less thing to be judged about I suppose.
Again I am failing to understand the point you are trying to make. EA are CHOOSING to release DLC on a monthly basis, they don't have to. I'm not even the one who brought up the 60 - 80 hour thing so I don't know why you're directing it at me.
All I have stated is how I feel and I certainly didn't intentionally go out of my way to insult anyone who is happy to purchase these packs on a monthly basis because in the end everyone has different limits for what is reasonable and what is not. I don't know why you feel as though that was an attack of some kind.
