@permanentrose that is so weird, I wonder if it is because you played an existing sim. I did the new save new sim option. Alexis started with level 6 job, level 5 charisma and level 5 logic. She also had the computer desk and tactical map in her household inventory. I think there might have been a table lamp thingy too, but I sold it. Your haunted house sounds fun, I might do that after this. I have the packs but don't use them LOL. Mmm now that Alexis has more money I will choose the nanny option next, I usually sent them to daycare.
