When Kayleigh sent her second Children's book off to a new publisher, she didn't expect a nomination from the Academy. But that's what she received. After the trauma of the missing Cadence which lasted for only a few minutes in retrospect, but proved frightening to the entire family, Erik and Kayleigh got up later than desired on Sunday morning. First on the agenda was church. But once again Cadence put herself front and center of attention. Both twins took the job of getting her ready. Harmony still peeved with her gave up and tossed the dress at her, all the while threatening to paddle her behind. With that, she walked out of the nursery. Melodie, on the other hand, chose to make a game of getting the Toddler dressed. Her way worked. Although Cadence did a fair amount of sulking.
After services, the parents had a full half an hour to change their clothes and get down to Del Sol Valley. They even arrived early, which allowed them to take two seats in the front row. Lilith Pleasant was today's Host. She got right down to business and opened the Show. Two of the recipients were Teulia Lefao and Bryanti Cho. When the Best Book category was introduced, Kayleigh, nearly lulled to sleep, sat upright. "And the winner is . . . Kayleigh Cantrell for her delightful Children's Book, The Bear and the Snowball!"
After the book category came the music portion of the awards show. "And, now, the moment you have all been waiting for . . ." Lilith teased, with glee in her eyes. And proceeded to announce that for the twenty-sixth time, Erik Cantrell won for his song, Broken Strings.
Their children greeted them as soon as the couple crossed the threshold of their home, nearly knocking the adults off of their feet. Peter stood in awe. "I didn't know you've been a Rock Star for seventeen years, Daddy. You really are old."
