Realism or Fantasy

Which do you prefer to play? A game that plays more like the real world reality or something a bit more fantasy.

Realism
No aliens, vampires, ghosts, grim reaper, etc. Just what we have in the real world.

Fantasy
Aliens, vampires, ghosts, grim reaper, dancing skeletons, aliens probing your male sim's rear, etc. etc. etc.

A combination. I have a vampire in my household, but I don't play him that vampire-ishly. He's going to work like a normal Sim and cooking for the rest of his family while he feeds on them. But there is nothing spooky about his character. I never play with aliens as they don't really interest me. I wish there were werewolves, fairies and witches in the game. But I'm not holding out much hope for those to be added. In many ways, Sims 4 is cartoonish in its expression which conflicts with realism, and I'm sure that is intended.
  • I much prefer a realism kind of take on the game. Living a believable life. Its easier to get into for me.
Not a fan of over the top xD

I need a “both” option because it all depends on what kind of story I want to tell in gameplay. I tend not to mix the two though, and keep separate saves for my normal sims with realistic lives, and my vampires. I hope we get more occult sims soon. I’d love to add witches to my vampire save.

Ok so I finally voted because I noticed I’ve been playing a lot of realism in TS4, whereas TS3 was an entirely different ball game because of the occults, and worlds like Dragon Valley, Moonlight Falls, and Midnight Hollow to play in. I think if TS4 expands more on supernatural themes I’ll play fantasy more than realism once again.

  • Fantasy

I like playing a mixture of realism and fantasy. I would like to have duals back from the orginial Sims. It could be easily manipulated by using the dance battles coding but also create showdown of lights etc.
It'd be nice to make witches, wizards and fairies, have there own club, lounge to meet up, practice and gain skills that enables them to use in the world.

I play both. My favorite fictional and story-telling genre is Urban/Modern Fantasy which places magic and mythological elements in the real, present-day world .
  • I would vote if a mixture of both were an option. The Sims has always appealed to me by having Sims which represent realism and all kinds of fun, exotic things that simply do not exist in the real world(which would be the fantasy aspect). I loved the occult’s, even if they weren’t “fleshed out” by today’s standards they were a fun little addition that emphasized the game NOT being a representation of real life. I think The Sims 4 tries WAY too hard to be close to real life, and that’s why there’s so much resistance to it at times. It sure seems to me that at times they draw comparisons to the real world instead of acknowledging this is a game meant to distract from the real world not relive the real world in game.

I usually prefer realism, but I do wish you could turn the fantasy part on and off, as it is fun to play a fantasy game sometimes also.
  • 100% realism for me - I use my game to explore and play out concepts that I wouldn't dare venture in real life; mysogyny, masochism, and polygamy are just a few of them.
