Realistic graphics tend to age very badly, while the cartoony style is kinda ageless. This is the reason why The Sims 4 (but also other games with similar cartoony graphics like WoW for example) still look fresh even after years of the initial release, IMHO.
I agree. A cartoony style also fits rather well with the overall quirkiness of The Sims.
