If you are on Windows 10 (or higher) you can record any video using built in windows features, no need for external additional software. Press Win-Alt-R to start and stop recording. You can also press Win-G to bring up the game overlay to see various built in settings for the video recording (and other things).
You can even record something that has just happened, after the fact, so if you miss a moment in game that you realized you had wished you recorded...you can do that. It is limited to only like the last 30 seconds or so though.
Alternatively, if you use an Nvidia GPU you can record any game footage just with the stock shadowplay features that is part of their Geforce experience package. It also offers the "record something that has already happened" feature.
I'm all for OBS, but unless you are a professional streamer, who wants to put fancy overlays over the top of your videos while you are streaming, it's not really worth installing additional software if either of the other solutions are already available.
