For my two cents, I don't really mind them redoing the lore, I'll just freely ignore it whenever I want. I have no problem with catering to other playstyles if it does not interfere with me. I've just realized that the lore doesn't matter much at all to me and rarely did even in the older games. The few times I was interested were often not even with popular sims, for example, I liked Thornton Wolff in TS3 and he never gets talked about. I only lightly played with the Goths, Calientes, and their friends.
I freely acknowledge that it matters a lot to some players and there was a period of time when I added a lot of Pre-Mades. I mainly added Get Together and I kept the Sulani pre-mades as an island tribe. I've kept a few others like Sofia Bjergsen and Knox Greenburg. I don't think there's a specific rule to why I take a liking to the few that I do but they are there for anyone who needs them or wants to base play around them. I know some play entirely with the pre-mades. My style is to basically run my own world and just add them on a case-by-case basis but that's because I mainly play with my own sims. They are useful for helping people to get started. In CoL, I'm keeping Cecilia, the Scotts continue to run the pub and I'm undecided about the Watsons right now. Due to the limited amount of lots, most of those pre-mades are just wandering villagers.
Anyone can do what they want. I've decided to be ok with the fact that I mostly don't care about the lore in favor of making my own and that is completely fine. They're there to catch your imagination if they do and I can see how for some, it's about following all of those pre-mades. When I haven't kept them it isn't personal. CoL, for example, doesn't have enough empty lots but has great builds so I'm willingly kicking them out for my own use. If they had given us a few more blank lots including a few more for larger houses, I might have kept more of them housed.
