Oops, I've been wrong about this for a very long time! Oh well. For future reference, is there a way to keep dead sims in the family tree but not get a ghost appear?
I think they're supposed to stay in the Family Tree, according to Carl's Sims 4 Ghost Guide.
"Return/Send to Netherworld
This is how you get rid of a ghost, forever. Do not use this option unless you are sure that you never want to see a ghost again and that you'll never want to play them. Click the ghost's urn or tombstone and you can release their spirit, permanently.
Family tree aside, it will be as though that Sim never existed as far as the game is concerned and they cannot be recovered. Ghosts can decide to 'move on' this way, even once controlled by the player. Simply have the ghost select their own remains and return to netherworld."
carls-sims-4-guide.com/death/ghosts.phpI've never actually released any, possibly it's a glitch.
To be on the safe side, you could make a cemetery on a different lot. I use a National Park, because it doesn't need the jungle gym, but still has NPCs. If you want it to be private, you could use Generic. I just travel there with the urn in my inventory and place it. If you visit late at night you may see the ghost there, of course, but I assume you just don't want it on your household lot? This probably won't get the one you released back in your family tree, unless you exited without saving.
