The reason they made the Sims 4 career rewards just recolors or better versions of items we already have is because people complained about the special items in Sims 2 being locked behind career promotions. Just like people complained Sims 3 Showtime locked stage decorations behind SimPort and now Sims 4 locking items behind different career/social goals. People's complaints are the reason why things change and then new complaints pop up about the changes. It's a vicious cycle that no one seems to understand.
