What is the point of neighbours when living in San Myshuno?

I've wondered this for years. I usually kick everyone out when my sims move in, so there are no neighbours.

The reason for that is because they always just complain, even if my sims do nothing. My sims can be sleeping and a neighbour complain I make too much noise.

Or they disturb my sims with their woohoo, and knocking on their door is successful about 0,01% of the time, so I need to have my sims banging on their door for them to come out. And it takes at least a couple of sim hours to get it "resolved".
I complain and the majority of the time they just tell me they live there too.

And on the rare occasion they apologize, they just go right back to it a few days later.

Being friends with them does not matter, and they usually cannot stay friends for long since I have to bang on their door when they block my sims from sleeping, and the complaining about the noise is always "mean", not a friendly please stop.

Then they come over like nothing happened and want food the next day.

Even my sims friends coming over randomly for "a day in the city" etc make no sense either, no fun and the sims coming over is so random.

Have you encountered anything fun or interesting from this? I usually just try and avoid it because it just cause frustration - it's like asking a sim if they are a mermaid - the same outcome every time so why bother?

  • It's just one of many examples in the game of a good idea poorly executed.

  • They offer interaction, so your sim has someone to talk to and doesn't feel isolated. I have a sim who is friends with her neighbour Penny Pizzaz and she comes over often, or asks my sim over to her place. You can hang out together and be friendly, and it's even funnier when you need to ask them to keep down woohoo noise when you're friendly with them. As for the interactions, they are different, one day Penny asked to be allowed to shower at my sim's place because her's was broken. With another sim, her neighbour asked her out. You can always create an interesting story with a neighbour, doesn't have to be only about angrily knocking on their door. I think asking a sim if they are a mermaid is meant to be an insult.

    (a) poorly executed, (b) bugged, (c) oversight, (d) missed opportunity. You don't even have to pick. The Sims has them all.

  • You think you got problems 😂 -

My Sim - Sheila Burns - is currently having roaches and rats, water leaks, electric panel sparking, bad odor coming from the floor, and a Landlord, who's just telling her "Just wait for it to get better... or worse" !

To add insult to injury, Sheila's Landlord is her neighbor, and (yes) Sheila had to confront her about some noisy WooHoo too 🫣!

  • I'm going out on a limb here, but maybe having neighbors lends just a bit of realism? I don't play in that town, unless I have to. IE my Sim wants to try the karaoke contest, or such.

  • They offer unrealistic neighbors and over the top issues. I live in an apartment complex and never have any of the type of problems that happens in San Myshuno. That is the Sims in general though, creating drama.
