They could add it similar to the likes and dislikes (though definitely it's own, separate category). They could revamp traits entirely... Have personality and preference tabs instead. "Social", "Diet", "Activities", "Career", "Decor", "Music", "Hobbies", "Skills".... Anything that could define a Sim as a whole when looked at as the big picture. They could even add "Character", where you could put Evil, Good, Snob, etc. A lot like how the likes and dislikes is set up now, but with the same effects, moodlets and other benefits/downsides traits have currently depending on what you choose.
Another interesting thing would be "Flaws"... Like Sims Medieval had, but it could be optional instead of required... That's an entire new ballpark that would add a lot for a lot of playstyles, but it being optional, it would also allow any playstyles that don't want or need it to still thrive.
