Sims 3 has a trait, neurotic. It will never appear in Sims 4. It's insensitive. It's not representative of true neurosis. It is not used professionally. It's often used to denigrate. And it is me to a T. I love that trait. I can make a sim who acts like I do and reacts like I do, in a humorous way. In Sims 4, there's no option to even non-autonomously do those interactions. No checking the stove and faucet. No freaking out. So no Sim who can represent one of my more negative but prevalent traits.
I don't know the way to handle actual personality quirks and disabilities, but speaking with experts instead of doing polls would be a good start to adding things in the game in an appropriate and realistic way. Done well, it's representation. Done by committee and focus groups, you end up with a mess. Sims 4 development heads messed up by not consulting with anyone who is an expert in human behavior when making their whole emotion system.
Is this a tangent? Yes, yes it is. So yeah, people who are complaining about the lactose intolerant trait should at least see if it's done accurately. If it is, then there really shouldn't be complaints.
