Removing ghosts from household question

My patriarch died, and I added his ghost to the household. I've regretted it ever since. Is there a way to remove him from the household, without moving him to another lot or releasing him to the netherworld? I would like him to be like a regular ghost again, haunting occasionally from dusk to dawn, and non-playable.

  • What happens of you move him out (to 'not in world') but keep his grave in the house? I'm not too sure if that will make him just haunt the lot, but you can try. There's nothing for you to lose. You can also move him back in.
  • I moved a ghost into its own home but left the urn in my regular house. The ghost comes every couple of nights like any other ghost would. I have the house the ghost lives in as a "played" house so it won't get culled. I have no mods or cc.
  • @LeGardePourpre I ended up doing that. Luckily he didn't die by electrocution, that would have been a pain to recreate. Now I have two tombstones for him, but I just moved one into the household inventory and the other works as it should. Thank you for your suggestion.

@Ibeanobswife Oh! I wish I'd seen that before I resurrected/killed him again. That's great to know for future reference. Thanks so much.

Any more updates on this? I've just added my dead Sim back to my household and I want her to become an NPC again...

    Hello @TeddyLupin
Try going to manage household. Click on your sims family household, then move the sim into another household. Move him to the " not in world" section. He may though be culled.

There is a mod that can help prevent culling happening.

Click the ghost, open the ghost's inventory, and click on the grave stone. You will have an option to send the ghost to Netherland... Hope it helps?

This is not The Sims 3, meaning ghosts don't have gravestones in their inventory. Unlike in The Sims 3, graves in The Sims 4 stay in the same place even after the ghost moves in or sim is resurrected (in that case, the gravestone can be deleted).
At first, there was an option for ghost to leave to the netherworld (I don't know if it's possible again) by clicking on their own grave. All the sims can release the spirit to the netherworld by clicking on the gravestone. In that case, ghost will be deleted.
Ghost can also get culled after 90 days.
Now this The Sims 4 discussion will be closed due to it being 2 years old (I think).

PS. Ghosts can also moved out with Manage Household, removing them from the household.
