It seems like that when dining at a restaurant, there is a lot of time that passes between the time a sim is seated, and the food is brought out. I usually order right away. It averages 3 hours, but my sims have once been stuck at a restaurant for 5 hours. Can we speed up the time to bring out food?

If you're not against mods, I use this one: http://modthesims.info/d/580377. Though I've noticed recently that my sims have been getting served much slower than before.

Yup, I have this too. That's also why I don't really dine out anymore.

Technically restaurants in real life is why we have fast food places too. But frankly for me - nothing beats going out to a real restaurant for a none fast food experience. You do not expect a restaurant meal to be in and out like Taco Bell or any of the fast food franchises. You expect a 4+ hour experience. My first job when I was in college was working evenings at a very nice, fancy restaurant - and the average table service was about 4-5 or more hours from start to finish for a table. Of course in a true restaurant meals are delivered in courses, one course at a time - allowing people to eat each course before the next part is delivered. We delivered 5 courses to each table - with a few tables ordering up to two more courses. It was not unusual in that restaurant to see the same folks there still at their table my entire shift. I worked from 5pm -11pm. If you have never been to a full service restaurant - then yes you would think it takes a long time. To me it is pretty normal - as that is the dining experience I prefer. Maybe though this game could use some fast food restaurants where food is delivered all at once and fast- and save the fancy restaurant for sims who use them for a dinner date.

I agree. The last time my sim went out to eat, they were there 9 hours -- and then went from mostly green need-bars to passing out before they even finished eating because of it. I think the game does a little better when you're on a date or something, but that last experience made me fairly sick of the entire game for a good week or two.

I generally control it with the menu choice. Like want a quicker experience limit your menu to just sandwiches and maybe salad and basic beverages like coffee and milk - so it is sort of fast food style. I just know earlier restaurants were slower than they are now - but if you are still having issues and long meals perhaps giving them less choice and less distractions will speed up the process. As for not staying seated - I just have no idea as my sims no longer roam like they used to - so I have no idea why some of you still have those issues.

I <3 send my sims out to dine. I have a few who never cook at home.

But as @Writin_Reg suggests, if meals seem too long the first things I do is check the restaurant setup. Long menus, layout, number of servers and cooks can all slow down a meal. Simple is best. And placing restaurant required items using MOO or off grid placement can effect how the NPC's navigate.

One of the best ways to see how everything works together is to play test as the restaurant owner.

I appreciate your suggestion! Only, that stuff is completely out of my range of knowledge. My sims don't work. I play the Sims for escapism reasons and having them work is the exact opposite of the goal for me. I don't want to test the game as the restaurant owner. I don't know how to check out restaurant settings (?). I don't want my sims to have a job, point blank, at all. Even temporarily. I've only just figured out how to use the community gallery and the bloody thing doesn't even work half the time I look at it.

For those who want to speed things up and are not opposed to mods, try the Waiter and Host Perk and Chef and Waiter perk mods. I recently updated them in the comments.

If you install both, your restaurants will be able to have 2 chefs, 2 hosts, and 4 waitresses which significantly speed up service time. I also have a version that integrates the changes made by Sims4Me restaurant overhaul, let me know if anyone here would be interested in that version.

it has all the files in one place, so you don't need to go hunt them down. if you use that version, you don't need the 'Important For Staff' file.

Let me know how it works in your game. It works for me, but I could be overlooking something since I didn't have anyone else playtest. Also, make sure you have 2 chef stations, 2 waiter stations, and multiple host stations, etc.

I guess I am one of the rare people who doesn't mine the long wait. I use the time to build relationships between sims whether just friendly or romantic.

@keekee53 if you go into a slow-food resturant in Real Life at 5 do you not except to be feed until the noon the next day?? That's our problem.

While I've never timed them, I don't think I've ever had sims take more than a couple of hours to be fed.

As soon as they arrive, I select a table, get them seated, and order their food right away. They're usually around the third table to be served. That first lot of food/drinks is enough to fill them, then they're out of there.
