Retail lot question

I am putting in a fashion boutique in place of the karaoke bar in San Myshuno because it's the fashion district...makes much more sense for a clothing store to be there instead of the karaoke bar. However, the fashion boutique I have is quite small and I can build something next to it on the same lot. What could I build that would be FUNCTIONAL? I will label it as a retail lot but what else could I put on the lot that sims would still use. Cafe? bakery? just need ideas. I don't want to build something that sims will never use just because it's marked as a retail lot. hope that makes sense.

  • I don't know whether this would work or not but if you have Get Famous, I wonder if you could build a salon next door? Possibly wouldn't work though but it would fit nicely in the fashion district! <3
  • I always wondered why they put a karaoke bar there. I too replaced it with a fashion store, but mine takes up all the room.

If it was me, I would use the extra space for a photo studio. It wouldn't get used by npc sims i suppose but would be great for doing fashion shoots for the photography career.

Any other retail lot purpose should function. I have a combined retail lot in my game where part of it is a fashion boutique and the other side is an electronics store. When I play that lot as the owner, sims will randomly go between the two shops and when they're ready to purchase something I never know which side they'll actually buy something from, but it works fairly well. A bakery would therefore probably be functional.

A cafe would probably work okay as well, though you'd likely have to hire a vendor every time you go to the lot.
  • thanks, everyone! I put a bakery in there next to the fashion store. I may switch it up from time to time, we'll see.

Do you plan to play that fashion store as in owned by played sim, or is it more the environment thing? If you add a café bar, the bar will not be served automatically, you will need to hire a barista to get anything there. Sims can still sit there and it will look good though.

I have a shopping mall that has stores like clothing, toys and flowers plus non retail services, but I tagged the lot as a café as I know I won't play the owner standing there selling stuff anyway. And it works just a good having the retail as backgrounds.
Ps: I had a sim own the lot first, and dressed up mannequins and set price level etc. After selling the lot and switching to Café, I can still interact with the mannequins as if the store was operated - like try on outfit. I never tried to purchase an outfit, though, but if I'd just be charged directly that would still work. Maybe the mannequin would be magically restocked next time someone enters the lot.
