Royalties move with the sim who earned them. Also, if you aren't actively playing the earning sim, the funds won't accrue while the household isn't active. And, in a couple of my writer sim households, after being away from the family for more than a couple sim days, the royalties stopped altogether, even though they weren't anywhere near being 20 days old. I found, to keep my non-active writer sim accumulating royalties, I had to switch to her household every 2-3 days, during a royalty payment (at 10am), then I could switch back to another household for a couple more days.
