I have UI Cheats but I let the Sims go through the moodlets, unless it's something that risks an emotional death such as the one above Very Playful (I can't remember the name) and risk dying of laughter -- I'll delete some of the moodlets that boost the emotion till I get back down to just Playful.
I do delete the playful ones a lot, particularly the one that came with the laundry SP - that one bugs me soooo much! I've decided with the sadness due to friends/acquaintances dying, I'll keep the moodlet if the Sim was a friend and delete it if they were just an acquaintance.
