Safest way to remove residential rentals

With the current sale going on, I finally caved in and got for rent. I want to use the world, the assets in build/buy and cas and a few objects like kettles and hopscotch. But I am afraid to dive into residential rentals because of the bugs. What is the best and safest way to remove a residential and turn it into a regular residential lot. Place another gallery lot or change zoning. How do I best   move out the current residents?

This is what I did and it worked. First I changed the 2 lots on Tomarang to residential lots. Then I left it alone until the next time I logged in. The next time I logged in I bulldozed the lot. Then I left it alone again. Then the next time I logged in so several days later I placed a lot from the gallery . I've had no issues using that method.

Also, when I placed the gallery lots one was a restaurant. I had no issue changing the lot type at this point.

  • I can't help, but I just wanted to say that I think many simmers get into trouble when they give residential rental lots new lot categories. I would not recategorize anything related to rental units. It's just not worth taking the risk, unless you like to start a fresh save every now and then. I never had problems with the few rental residential lots that come with that pack. And I think they are safe to play, or just for storing NPCs. Even if some sims lives in those units, you don't need to play them as renters. And you don't need to play a landlord either.

I also suspect that some of those have issues like corrupted lots, somehow imported the problem from the gallery. So, I will never grab any lot from the gallery, and especially not for anything related to for Rent.

It really is worrying that EA has not yet bee able to address the FR related issues, especially where saves get corrupted. Hopefully their new team will work effectively on this, but even more important would be communicating glitches and theories to us. Would be tragic if most of us keep avoiding the FR features after the team has found/fixed the culprit(s).

Yes, I’m afraid to download rental lots after getting a while screen after testing rentals in a practice save.  That was a few months back, and it was in San Sequoia that they say they have fixed with the last patch.  I too am afraid to download anymore residential rentals, , or even make them, especially if I’m not sure I want that lot to always stay a residential rental.  My older daughter who is on a PlayStation ( I’m on a PC ) thinks the problem might be in the lot traits for the residential rentals since each rental can have different ones, she thinks when you get rid of a rental you need to first take off all the lot traits for each rental before changing it back to a residential.  I have not tested that theory out.  I made a couple of my own residential rentals that seem to work fine, and have a couple that I did download from the gallery, but I will probably never change those lots to anything other than residential Rental, at least until the sims team feel like they have completely fixed it.,   I give very serious thought before making any lot a residential rental.

That is one bug that I am no longer dealing with since their patch addressing For Rent. I moved the tenants out and deleted them, bulldozed the lots and changed them to residential, and they stayed that way. One, I put another rental on and another has a regular house on it.

I'm not seeing some other bugs people have reported either. The one I'm still dealing with is the lot names reverting. They said they fixed it, but it's not 100% fixed. Some of my lots still have the name I gave them after several sessions, some reverted to their previous names. None have kept the unit names I gave them; they all changed to "lot's previous name 1" and "lot's previous name 2" etc. So I have a note on my phone listing what the game is calling the lots/units and what I want to call them.

  • Today I had to learn how to uncorrupt yet another save file that uses residential rentals. Here is the LE that triggered the corruption:

I resolved this issue by turning all the residential rental lots in the save into regular residential lots (and this can be done safely without bulldozing the lots, but it may result in a minuscule chance of corruption if the lots are not bulldozed).
