I don't see emotions being put to the test here.
I think people confuse emotion with facial expression. Sure, an emotion can show on ones face but it's not the same. For me, emotion is based on how the sim reacts to what is going on around them. Crying when a sim dies, being upset when being cheated on... Those are the things that matter.
