When I was playing on PC (before I switched to console) I could save Sims and Lots with mods and CC, but I had trouble SEEING them. They were THERE, but I had to mess around with settings and check boxes to be able to SEE them. In your problem solving research, I would focus on issues involving VIEWING more than SAVING.
