This new feature has me very excited. Granted, it isn't perfect and has its faults, but now our same sex couples can have a family using their own genetics. My youngest son and his husband went through a horrendous few years before they were able to adopt their son. Three adoptions fell through and the pain and stress of it all was heartbreaking to watch. The process was so painful they decided to not put themselves through that again. They believed it was better to have one child rather than the two they had planned to adopt, if it meant they never had to go through the adoption process again. Until a female friend of my son's offered to be their surrogate if they wanted a second child. She is almost family to us as she and my son have been best friends since grade school. She is happily married and has three children of her own but wanted to do this for my son and son-in-law because of their long-time friendship, and she knows how much having a family means to them. My son-in-law is infertile because of cancer treatments he went through in his teens. But they will become the proud parents of a baby girl in early May.
This feature has captured my heart because it hits so close to home, I guess. I can overlook its shortcomings if it allows me to tell a story with a happy ending. And I'm certain I will be using it more than other players even if I need to use my imagination part of the time along the way to my happy ending. I don't care that having Science Babies could have been done better. I'm just happy we have the option to create more diverse families. <3
