actually, you can do it just fine with friendly sims, even family. the fight actually counts as a friendly interaction, since the sims hug and make up after it (but, mind you, if you have the parenthood pack, parents will still get upset at seeing their kids get into fights). teens can only fight other teens, which makes sense, but took me entirely too long to figure out...
