Setting sexual orientation and gender identity for born in game sims

Hi everyone,
I've had a number of sims grow up from child to teen to young adult since the sexual orientation and pronouns updates, and I always struggle trying to set their sexual orientation and gender identity as they grow up. I'm able to do it eventually using repeated cas.fulleditmode cheats, but I'm just wondering what the normal in-game way to do it is supposed to be.
It's easy on new sims, but for born in game sims who have aged up, it says can't edit existing sims.

I would like to be able to choose gender identity when my sims age up to children, sexual orientation when they age up to teens, and to turn off the exploring flag whenever feels right after that.

Have you tried "Change Sim" interaction on mirrors/dressers? It allows wider customization options than Plan Outfit, including gender and attraction settings.
  • Oh, now I have to go check my one and only Teen in my game. He was born in-game and up until I read this thread I had no thought about it. Thanks for the tip @EgonVM

Omg, how did I not know this? It always bugged me that I had to use the cas.fulledit cheat to set the gender attraction. It is so nice to know I can set this without cheating. So strange to have different levels of customisation in CAS depending on what option you select from the dresser. I usually use the button to set likes and dislikes to go into CAS because sims don't actually use dressers. But I guess I have to change that now.

Indeed. It was added in the gender update before Dine Out expansion pack (it was even mentioned in the patch notes).

There are 4 levels of sim CAS:

  • Change Appearance/Plan Outfit: Accessible through dressers, mirrors, and "Edit in CAS" button in likes and dislikes (in that case, the first panel that opens is likes and dislikes panel). With cheats, this level also opens up when you are editing career outfit ( sims.edit_career_outfit_in_cas ). This allows you to change sim's clothing, hairstyle, accessories, make-up, tattoos, walking style, aspiration etc.
  • Change Sim: Accessible through dressers and mirrors (teens and up). It allows all the previous level stuff and allows you to change voice (teens and up), body shape (excluding weight and fitness), face, gender options etc.
  • Manage Households: Accessible through Manage Households in Manage Worlds. Existing sims have the same options as if in Change Sim level. However, this level allows you to add and remove sims. Sims that are newly added have full mode level customization.
  • Full Mode: Accessible when initially creating a household (through New Game or Create a Household to Move In) or entering CAS through previous methods with cas.fulleditmode on cheat enabled. This allows you to change everything, including weight and fitness, life stage, voice (children and younger), traits, relationship etc.

So, most of the time no cheats are required here. Some examples when it is required is when you want to change existing sims' relationships (family dynamics for example), when you want to change traits, child's or younger's voice etc.

  • I wasn't around when dine out ws released so I never read the patch notes for that pack. I was on an extended sims break at the time. Thanks for digging them up.
