I think other things will probably keep popping into my mind. I've already thought of some other things.
I change my sims' outfit depending on their story in my head. Right now I have a sim who is slowly getting more and more addicted to the bubble blower and she starts caring less for her appearance which is being reflected in my game with different hairstyles and less glamorous outfit combo's.
I also use custom traits to give my sims a wider variety of personality, for example ADHD or Allergic to Dogs.
At the moment I have a sim living in an abandoned house so I try to keep in theme with that. He can't cook complicated meals and mostly only eats quick meals since he's a criminal and wouldn't use his free time to go shop elaborately. He's also in a club called 'Gang' which consists of his criminal buddies. They torment people around town regularly but also gather at the abandoned house to think up their evil plans.
