When I played a "realistic" game I put a second Winterfest day aka 2nd Christmas day in my calender. Of course the day is a public holiday and nobody has to go to work or school. My sims on this day should attend the ceremony, lightning candles, enjoy a great feast again and they should be grateful to the other sims. The kids get once more gifts from the extended family visits.
