Unpopular opinion here but I don't think they should change it. I want my sims to be able to socialize with vampires, ghosts, spellcasters, even the grim reaper without fear. I could understand if they were scared after an occult did something scary to or around said sim, but otherwise it would get old real quick. Besides we all know EA has a tendency of going too far in one direction after they call themselves 'fixing" something. I'd rather just keep it like it is than have to deal with my friendly vampire/ghost/alien scaring every human sim they come it contact with for no other reason than they are an occult.
I agree to a point, that just being an Occult doesn't make a Sim scary. In the game, Sims don't necessarily identify a Vampire or Spellcaster just from being near them. Plus, many people do have relationships between normal Sims and Occults, and this shouldn't be tampered with.
But I also don't think it should be left alone because the
acts of the Occult should make a difference. Since Vampires have the choice of getting permission to feed or being more monstrous about it and doing what they will, I think that choice warrants a proper reaction. Same with my Spellcaster setting a celebrity afire. I tried this and the celebrity just stood there trying to converse afterwards, while the paparazzi hung around on their phones. It's nonsensical. The choice of how a player wants to direct their Vampire or Spellcaster should make a difference and allow an appropriate response. If a player want their Vampire to be kind and respectful and keep to themself, it should be allowed without fear. If a player wants their Vampire to be a terror to the neighborhood and drink Sims into unconsciousness, it should provoke fear in the victim
and any observers because it's an act of horror.
A Sim with the Brave trait might be surprised but not react the same way. This would make a very good distinction between Sims and add more personality and even lead to better story arcs. This brave Sim could, perhaps, become a Vampire hunter. Putting more options in the hands of the player without breaking immersion just makes a whole lot more sense to me. Players who want Vampires to terrorize by default can still create clubs and dictate autonomous feeding and use of powers and choose locations. It would bring the Occult chaos that those players have wanted for a long time without disrupting the saves and stories of others. I think it would bring better balance.
