Should Devs update old worlds?

Now if you want, let's say, ocean swimming, it would be possible to add ocean swimming to every world after this point without causing any problems in your old saves. I know you're probably thinking that all you want is to swim in WC's ocean. How can that possibly break every save? They wouldn't be able to add ocean swimming to WC. They would need to redo WC with ocean swimming and replace the old WC in our games with a new WC, basically starting over with a clean version and losing everything we've done in WC to date. I don't see this happening.

When ever has any game ever thought what everyone wants before they add something? The "gender" patch was completely useless for me I did not want it and it was not optional and it broke some of my cc this is just how Sims works but at least with updated worlds it would give us more to do in the empty basic worlds that offer nothing beyond exploring gathering and fishing spots.
