My Sim did have a rabbit hole mermaid experience in the cave - she came out with a 'sad' moodlet from the siren's song and a whole bunch of mermadic kelp. (It's impossible to get rid of the stuff - you can't throw it away, sell it from your inventory, or even put it in the treasure chest. Maybe you can put it in the fridge, but I didn't want my Sims accidently eating it. I finally had to drag each of the ten bits of kelp from the inventory to the floor, go into build mode, and delete each bit.)
There are some that spawn around the cave under the volcano.
