I really like some of the Ambitions careers, even though they are lineair and checklist based. I liked the stylist career because I played it in Sunset Valley and restyling townies there is a very gratifying job :p I liked the ghostbuster and the firefighter career (the latter is bugged but playable for me with a work around) because I like the hunting aspect and the action. The investigator was a let down for me, I quit beforehand.
As for GTW, like in Ambitions I’m not a fan of the lineair aspect. I do like the fact you have real colleagues and the animations are nice (I briefly did the police career and the scientist career for quite a while). The police career felt fake (comparable to the investigator career in Ambitions) and after enjoying the scientist for a couple of days, I lost interest because I didn’t see any progress in animations. It was like making your sim do the very same things over and over again day after day. I left her busy working on the rocket (when I returned to TS3), I would have loved for her to go to Sixam (a really nice touch of that pack), but building that rocket as such was a bore too - tick tick tick tick, I’d always put on speed 3, as I did with all the other animations after seeing them a couple of times - and stood in the way of promoting (I had to ignore the checklist). Going to Sixam though is still on my to do list and a reason to continue with that sim one day.
All in all I prefer Ambitions, because there was some creativity in there (stylist and decorator) and action (ghosthunter and firefighter). And another aspect I loved and used for many sims I played, is the ability to register as self-employed.
