You know what I realized earlier, when someone else was discussing Open World.
Looking back, the Open World in 3 was just a lot of barren wide open land, not much ever went on and there wasn't really much to look at the further out you ventured. It was just a lot of emptiness.
But then you look at Sims 4 and the Open World, as small as it is- mainly because it's all sectioned into neighborhoods, is FULL of collectibles and beautiful landscape as well as a few public spots to hang out that don't require a loading screen all over the place.
So, in my opinion, the Open World in 4 is a lot more appealing than 3. Granted you have to sit through a minute or two of loading screen to visit your neighbor but honestly that's a small price to pay for incredibly smooth gameplay and graphics. Just something to ponder.
That 'barren wide open land' blows Sims 4 out of the water in the beautiful landscape department for me, but I get what you mean. For me that wide open land is part of the experience and I often send my sims there or drive them through it. It's part of the immersion for me, but I totally understand it's not for others. I love the spaces in there, where there are no to little other sims. In fact I get tired and irritated every single place my sims go in 4 is crowded with stalking sims. Even when I send my sim to a mysterious lonely tree that needs exploring she gets stalked by five sims who cancel my instructions to explore the tree. For me that's enough to close the game and start doing something else. For me a bit of freezing and rendering is a small price to pay for the beauty, immersion and freedom of an open world. And I prefer Sims 3 graphics, I don't like the plastic look in Sims 4.
