Just as an FYI, the developers have been working on this for the Sims 4. So now sims can and do feel sad if another sim they're close to (relationship-wise, not just physically) is sad. They also react negatively to cheating. When the game first game out, they absolutely had no reaction - it's not like that anymore.
That's something I noticed recently.
My sim had a love triangle a couple of Uni terms back, but now it's only Zane and Meadow Thayer.
But while at the study table one day, Cassandra Goth flirted with Zane in front of Meadow.
Meadow instantly became sad at this.
Spoiler
And I thought I had better put an end to this once and for all.
So I had Zane ask Cassandra if they could just be friends.
And Cassandra was like:
"Okay, Zane. I understand, friends it is."
Very calmly, no drama. Which I was happy about.
And then Meadow gets up and is like:
"I really don't appreciate the two of you flirting when I am sitting...right...here.
It's so... disrespectful!"
And then she walks off.
After, I felt like there was more to this that you could read into.
"You know, you should really stop pushing her buttons like that."
"Yeah, I know, Zane, but I can't help it. It's so much fun."
It's like they gave me enough evidence to further read into things.
Or maybe that was just luck.
I thought Meadow needed to work off that frustration. A few rounds on the punching bag should help as well.

On a side note, there was something else I noticed at Uni.
I know the dormies have much more of a life than past games. They have love interests and their own group of friends.
But things seem more dynamic lately. I've notice more of them walking around heart broken, public displays of affection, and even arguments.
I feel like they are giving us opportunities for storytelling and drama.
Like here is a setup for you to take advantage of.
