I'm not even primarily a builder (I like all aspects of the Sims games, build mode, create a sim, live mode, equally), yet I think the Sims 4 build mode is very lacklustre. I thought at the beginning that build mode had potential and they had some good ideas, but as time has gone by it has been totally left behind. The backtracks made have outweighed any new features, and it has barely been added to in any of the packs (not much in terms of building features or new wallpapers/floors/doors/Windows). In the Sims 2 at least they often added new features to build mode, such as ceilings and plenty of doors/wallpapers etc. Build mode, like the rest of the Sims 4's features, seems to be defined by restrictions. There's so many things you can't do because they've simplified everything too much (eg foundations are always on or off), leaving little room for customisation or advanced and complex designs. I always found when playing the Sims 2, I could build pretty much anything that popped into my head and I barely ever found that I couldn't create something exactly how I wanted. In the Sims 4 it's a matter of finding something you CAN build.
