In TS3, Sims actually formed sexualities that stayed with the Sim depending on how you had them flirt and show attraction to other Sims, so they would stay consistent in sexuality even if you weren't playing them.
So if you had a Sim flirt exclusively with the same sex, they would naturally choose other Sims of the same sex. From what I can tell, TS4 doesn't have a system like that, which is...*really* an oversight. I'd honestly bring it up with a Guru and see if a fix could be implemented.
