+1 generally here on no-autonomous-romantic-relationships for played Sims. That's something that should be left, in my opinion, to modders. Even if our played rotated-away-from Sims are in the background at the park somewhere, flirting, those relationships shouldn't alter, so that when we play them, it's as if nothing happened.
If you had not set the Sims preference (like I hadn't for Watson) in the TS2 Sims would reject flirting from either gender until the player decided to make them flirt with one or the other then that set their gender preference. In the TS4 it doesn't matter, if you have or haven't made them flirt the game will make them flirt back. That is the problem.
