They didn’t push TS4 out too soon because there were no reasons for waiting any longer. But EA has just discovered that they don’t need to put twice as much content neither in the basegame nor in the expansions because people just buy everything anyway and EA earns much more money by cutting down on all the extra content in each package ;)
I don't often agree with you but I do think there's some truth to people buying everything in the hope it will make it better for them. I'm content with the release structure and the amount of content. Still haven't gotten around to playing the vet business because I'm having fun just having a dog in my household. Also haven't played with a cat yet. But there are people who get excited, buy a pack and lose interest in a couple of weeks, or for some a couple of days. So I think this pack/ content format works just fine for EA and has the potential to be the biggest money maker in the series before it's all over.
I am not sure about that because we don’t know the sales numbers for TS4. But maybe you are right anyway because it seems that EA has fewer developers working on the game than ever before after closing the studio in Salt Lake and letting Maxis develop both the Sims 4 for consoles, the Sims Mobile and likely also TS5 at the same time as the PC version of TS4.
EA also seem to have concluded that the big expansions for the earlier games weren’t really needed and that even EPs can be made smaller and cheaper to make without the sales numbers going down. Otherwise EA wouldn’t have made the expansions this way. So I guess that you are right about this pack/content format working fine for EA ;)
