I'm going to have to disagree with you there. As someone in a few other video game communities for games quite similar to The Sims 4 (Animal Crossing, Minecraft, there's a few others but I haven't been on them in quite a while and I don't remember their names), this one is easily the most toxic. There's no questioning that they all have their toxic players, but in this community, it's a lot more normalized for people to be shamed for enjoying the most recent edition of the game.
Oh...as someone who's part of the Pokemon and Smash Bros communities, TS4 is extremely tame. By far. Unless you just meant games similar to TS4...
I've been trying to ignore this thread, but it keeps popping up in my notifications so I haven't kept up on the conversation XD. But people in The Sims community are frustrated and they tend to vent in any way they can. The game's been going for 6 years and a lot of people can't separate it from its predecessors that were much more finished games whereas TS4 is
still lacking. They want it to be a good game, but it's constantly disappointing them.
Similarly, there are people who can't differentiate between hate and criticism. Calling out the game's weaknesses and shortcomings isn't hate. It can get annoying when you see it everywhere, but it's not hate. I understand some would rather see
constructive criticism rather than just pointing out all the bad points of the game, but it's still not hate. It's criticism.
Of course there are people who downright hate the game. But there are so many more who still love the game despite everything. People focus on the negatives.
To the Bonehilda debacle, that was a buildup of constant frustration and disappointment in the series. I really don't think it needed to blow up as much as it apparently did, but people defending it really didn't need to fuel it lol. Just let people get it out their systems. I did find it funny that people were *omg shocked* that she's just a costume. Some people still have such high standards for the game and are constantly disappointed like they were with the train in Snowy Escape, the aliens in JtB, the lack of snow depth, the lack of everything...we should all know what we're getting with this game by now.
The latest Pokemon and Animal Crossing series have been getting a lot of negative criticism, but what separates them, or other similar games, from The Sims is the fact that those are standalone games and TS4 is an ongoing series with lots of DLC costing lots of $$$ and has been going for 6 years. They've had years to fix issues that they blatantly ignored and that's where the disdain comes from.
