The Sims 4 is enough popular in order to be maintained several years.
That is overall performance across all games. Their sports games are their number one seller along with their mtx. The sims 4 is a very small percentage of that. The only reason it's still a game is there is no competition for it along with the fact that they sell you more game play in small slices that allow them to keep making money off the game. That is almost a requirement for all games under the EA umbrella. Good luck finding a game under EA that can't be heavily monetized in one way or another. If there ever was another game like the sims made by another dev I'm willing to bet you would either see significant changes to the sims franchise or it would be shelved like they did with the Mass Effect franchise.
