My reference to the Old Republic is that it's not a guarantee. In other words just because a game has lootboxes doesn't mean it's automatically going to "quadruple profits, or more."
I also used TOR as an example because it's an EA property. An EA property mind you with the Star Wars name. One that's had lootboxes for years now yet it was Battlefront 2 that ended up being the thing that finally got people all fired up about lootboxes.
Going back and forth on what games lootboxes are a success for or aren't ultimately doesn't go anywhere as there are both numerous examples of successes and failures with lootboxes.
True, but at the same time you can/could point to more examples of games where it didn't work than the ones that did because there will always be more failures than successes.
"Hey loot boxes did great for Overwatch."
"Awesome, but here's a hundred examples of games where lootboxes didn't work."
Also going back the original point, having lootboxes doesn't mean a game's development cost is cheaper but rather gives developers another avenue to generate revenue which can allow them to sell games for cheaper or give them away for free in certain cases.
