Kinda tough now to suggest that EA marketing is being clever, sneaky, or are controlling the message when the above happens.
Just look at https://www.ea.com/news/the-sims-4-in-development-for-pc-and-mac to see how EA announced TS4. It was in May 2013 and EA then released it in September 2014 only 16 months later.
It was the same thing with the Sims Mobile. Nobody knew that it was in development until EA suddenly soft launched it in Brazil in May 2017.
