I like to control everything my Sims do, so I don't much like the 'self-care' option. If I leave a Sim doing something while on self-care, I expect her to continue to do it until one of her needs becomes red. Instead, Sims immediately stop doing whatever they were told to do, including sleeping.
I left my child asleep while I took the mother and grandmother to Sixam - I figured that leaving after the kid was in bed would keep her from doing other things while we were gone. Instead, she immediately jumped out of bed. Her energy need wasn't in the red, but as she had school the next day, she needed a full night's sleep. (Okay, in the real world, you would never leave a child alone in the house in the middle of the night. But my terrible Sim parenting skills are not the issue here.)
The bug thread has more to do with Sims not taking care of their needs at all while on self-care, and I haven't had that issue. It's more that I would like self-care to work differently.
