Sims for Men

I don't like that vacuums and kitchens are associated with women, though I do agree that it would be nice to have more content for the male sims.

So unfortunately I understand why they don’t just go all in with certain stuff. They probably do a ton of expensive marketing research to see if teenage girls would enjoy a certain pack before going into production.

Not to mention I can already see the Twitter rage if the team comes out with packs more geared toward a more masculine audience.

I don't know much about transgender or gender fluid people but I remember when I first saw CAS again I was like 'how old is this game? Only 2 sexes?". But I read somewhere that will be fixed

Rather than “girly” I’d prefer to call some of these manners effeminate, although virtually they mean the same thing.

It’s fine if being flamboyant is a characteristic of that specific sim, but these guys shouldn’t all be treated the same way.

I always loved the introduction of walk styles, however I feel that a sim’s manner and movement should go beyond just that. Perhaps it’s asking for a lot, but it would give our sims so much more of that character and personality we’ve been hoping to see.

I play traditional, straight males so I either give them the tough walk or the swagger walk, but that’s where the expression of their manner also kinda stops, doesn’t it? The moment my “tough” dude sits on the sofa he crosses his legs. Why? That’s not the kind of guy he is...he’d take over the whole couch with his presence. Both legs miles apart.

There’s no need for it to be super exaggerated, but details like this would make such a huge difference.

Either way, if we're talking about the excess amounts of CAS items geared towards female Sims VS male Sims, then I definitely would agree... but the overall game doesn't come off as "more girly" than previous games in the franchise. At least not for me.

The flirting. Definitely girly at times and they flirt with men and women whether you want them to or not. Also, not everyone plays the game as a "dollhouse" I play because I've always been fascinated by AI. And watching these tiny people live their lives is still amazing to me.

I said that's basically what it is, because it's true... you're basically playing with virtual dolls that you dress up and create stories for, while also decorating/building houses for them to live in. It's obviously not an actual dollhouse simulator, but can easily be considered one. It wasn't meant in an offensive way at all. All people should be able to enjoy playing with dolls. It sparks imagination and creativity, along with teaching people (especially children) about caretaking.

I think he means the *way* they flirt. I often think they look rather camp. I mean, to see a big beefy guy like Don, fluttering his hand and lifting up one leg like, well, a girl, is weird. Obviously men flirt lol

It’s just very girly when they do it in game. I actually never let my male sims do the flirting due to this reason.

Yep there are some flirt actions I avoid doing with male sims because theyre too feminine or come across too comical.

There has always been only 2 sexes. Just saying. “Diversity” is what has ruined the sims 4 if I’m being honest. If we, men, were to get a pack towards us there would be a whole backlash by Twitter & this “woke”, cancel culture because apparently that wouldn’t be considered diversity unless it’s aimed towards LGBT, BLM, etc..

So if "Diversity" is what ruined the sims 4, reasonably you are of course against diversifying the game by adding new things for male sims? Would that ruin the game, since it's a form of diversity, or no?

In my opinion, it would only improve the game. I would love new things for my male sims, they could use it with how little/bad our options are.

Diversity is fine. Diversity™ is what aggravating some players.

As I said in my previous comment, there would be backlash because it would not be considered diversity. This new generation apparently determines what’s okay & what’s not okay. If anything, it would most likely be considered degrading or sexist or sensitive towards LGBT stereotypes.

And yes it has ruined the franchise in many ways. Unlike its previous titles, we had so many unique things we don’t see in the sims 4. Like the old raunchy animations & quirky gameplay.
Sims 4 is all over the place without an identity because it’s too focused in trying to include all these cultures, orientations etc without trying to offend. But look how well that worked out with snowy escape.

People want diversity yet when EA does they complain. When they don’t, they complain. Look at the recent article by SimsVip https://simsvip.com/2021/03/26/the-sims-its-time-to-change-the-worlds-literally/

Previous titles were good because they were only focused on gameplay elements.

I don't think that's what is wrong at all. There's nothing wrong with diversity or including it. The problem is that Maxis hasn't hired enough programmers or QA and instead is overly produced with what seems to be too many middle managers and FX designers twiddling their thumbs thinking of things to add. The game is pretty, but it lacks working systems and the amount of bugs is evident that they don't have a competent team to implement the ideas they're coming up with. I think they have great ideas, poor execution. Notice how adding diversity doesn't really require actual programmers? There's a reason we get that stuff instead of working gameplay systems that add a lot of value to creating a cohesive game. None of the packs work together, can't add EP interactions to clubs, stuff like that.

I honestly don't think the game is too girlie, but I do think it lacks the mechanics of previous games and without mods, it is bland and lacks challenge. To me that doesn't translate to "girlie", just not very fun overall.

I don't know what you mean by "enough of going off topic" since this is on topic. This is a thread asking for more items, gameplay, and options for male sims, which is diversity, it's only logical for us to talk about it.

Anyway, I don't agree with you at all. I don't see how getting new things for male sims would be "sexist or sensitive towards LGBT stereotypes", I also don't see how getting new items for our dudes has anything to do with the LGBT community at all. If anything, Twitter's going to complain that "We have one game that's centered around women, and now they're going to try to take that away from us! Grr argh!" and honestly, those people are just plain silly, but I can't see the argument they'd make for it being against the LGBT community.

Besides, you can have diversity and have raunchy gameplay. The way I see it, the problem isn't the diversity at all, the problem is the company is trying to appeal to a younger age group, and due to this attempt they've removed a lot of the things that an older age group would find enjoyable/funny. It's supposed to be rated T, but by teen they mean 13/14/15 which is fine but it needs to be acknowledged by EA and the players. Especially the players...I mean, they're the ones spending money on it, might as well know what they're getting themselves into.

I want more items for everyone that doesn't have them. Items for children, elders, men, toddlers, people with disabilities, the LGBTQ+ community, and everyone else that isn't represented in this Young Adult Female Sim (tm) gameplay.

Maybe twitter's just a lot more nonsensical then I realize, but I'm going to stay optimistic. Besides, the simmers on twitter gotta know our male sims are struggling over here, right?

That's what I think the OP is talking about, how all the sims act the same, regardless of their sex, which tends to be a more feminine response/reaction to a lot of things.

And I agree, it is jarring to have a heterosexual straight male who walks tough and swaggerish, all of a sudden have mostly traditionally feminine gestures, animations, and reactions to things.

It would have been so much better if the "walk style" dictated more how the sim behaved animation-wise .... ie: swagger walk = manly man, tough guy actions, feminine walk = flirty, girly hand fluttery type actions, goofy walk = goofball actions and responses, etc.

Or better yet, they could have just made all actions, responses, and animations be totally neutral and non-gender geared.

But, that's just my opinion.
