Sims' friends asking for advice

I get a kind of negative response when I've said no actually, which I find a bit strange tbh. When a friend has asked about going on a date with someone and I've said no I get a message later saying something like "so it turns out me and so and so weren't meant to be" and my Sim gives a "sorry to hear that" response. I find that a bit strange because they didn't go on a date because I said no.

I've also had a relationship decline after refusing to give an opinion and selecting the option to tell the calling Sim that they should make up their own mind. I got a notification from the Sim that it wasn't helpful to them. I can't remember the specific words but their friend wasn't happy with them at all and the relationship dropped when I checked. So I no longer tell them to decide for themselves if it's an important friendship.
