I've spent the last few days cleaning up my game. I've not had any major problems, no noticeable lag, but after reading those recent blogs in the Sims Game Info Hub about mods and game updates and improving game performance, I decided to make some changes in prep for future updates and DLC.
I started with removing all my CC, build/buy and CAS, and most of my mods. Prior to removal my Mods folder was 2 GB. It's currently 53 MB. I went from 960 files to 74. I have a few retail lots missing objects so I'll have to replace them with something comparable.
I cleared out my tray folder, which was all the lots and sims in My Library that I'd downloaded from the Gallery. Cleared out my Screenshot Folder.
I'm not a builder and 99% of the lots in my game were downloaded from the Gallery. After reading that build cheats can result in poor performance I bulldozed all the empty lots in my game. My Newcrest was totally filled with empty lots, no sims at all. Those lots are all gone. I still have to check all the other worlds for empty lots. Sims weren't interacting with anything on these lots but I feel better just getting rid of them all. Might sound drastic but not knowing how much longer this game will go on convinced me to take these steps. Especially since I basically have one save (and copies) that I've been playing for at least 5-6 years. Maybe even longer.
I then moved on to clearing out my household inventories. I only play four households rotationally. I started with Julianna's lot. Clearing out the fridge of harvestables and storage chest netted me 144,246 simoleons. With a perfect garden there was need to store so much.
So hopefully when I'm done I'll be good to go and prepared for whatever might come.
