I honestly feel that it works both ways when it comes to size hate / discrimination. I'm regularly told that I am too "big" for my height because I'm short. Apparently for the people who actually care about what I look like I should be a UK size 8 at the most, the fact that I'm between a UK size 12 and 14 seems to genuinely offend and disgust them.
It seems that these people have never heard of breasts or hip bones :roll:. I am the size that I am because that is the shape of my body and I would have to undergo invasive cosmetic surgery to change that - I don't care about the comments anymore but it used to really negatively impact my self-esteem.
It's always from other women too. Men are never subjected to this kind of scrutiny. If you look in the media who is it whose always underneath the magnefying glass for gaining / losing a bit of weight? Women. I've always said:- fat men are acceptable in society, fat women are not.
In the end, I do think those thin sims look disturbing. NOT because they are thin but because they just scream "Anorexia!" to me. You can absolutely have those kind of proportions and look beautiful but the difference is that a woman who is meant to be that size will never (to my knowledge) have the gaunt face or protruding bones that is so commonplace with ill-health / an eating disorder. I mean hell! The guy's chest is practically concave!
The thin sims here look ill (it's the limbs that really bother me,the guy's chest and the fact that for some bizzare reason EA have decided that they're going to add the extra detail of a visible spine, I don't mind the waist proportions etc). I think that's what I object to and I hope I don't offend anyone by saying it.
I think the thin sims get more criticism because honestly? It looks more shocking. I look at the overweight sims and I see someone who is yes, overweight and not by a small amount but not to the same frightening proportions as say, someone who was morbidly obese. You have a perhaps borderline obese sim vs a sim that looks like he / she's been starving themselves (muscle wastage on the arms and legs etc).
Had the overweight sims been more extreme, I daresay both would've gotten the same reaction.
