I have this exact problem. Almost every time I have twins, and it really stumps my game play because playing two children is just not my thing. One thing you could try to do without installing mods is have the couple try for a baby when neither of them is flirty. I did this and had twins anyway, but I hear that should decrease the odds of multiples.
