So much Hysteria!

Is anyone else having an increase in their sims becoming hysterical lately? Last night I played for a few hours and during that time there were three separate occasions where my sims became hysterical (the same sim did twice, and his twin brother did once). Granted, it was Winterfest during two of the occasions, but when I looked at the moodlets, it was something like "listened to holiday music" or "watched the comedy channel" that was giving the playful mood and just a bunch of happy moodlets boosting it. I'm sorry but I don't think sims should be able to become hysterical and possibly die just because they listened to holiday music or watched the comedy channel, this is a bit extreme.

Neither of the boys are goofball or erratic sims either, their traits are like music lover and romantic and active and romantic....not traits that should make it easier to become hysterical. I know happy moodlets boost the playful moodlet and that's what gets them to hysterical, but my gosh, can't they make it so there needs to be more than one playful moodlet to cause hysteria? Like i said I think it's a bit extreme for watching the comedy channel, listening to holiday music, decorating the tree, having a nice environment, having high needs fulfilled etc to cause hysteria.

I hadn't seen a sim get hysterical for a while and then last night it happened three times. I don't know if it's just because it was Winterfest, or if it is suddenly easier for sims to get hysterical? Everyone in my house has at least one death flower so I think next time I will just let it play out and see how long it takes for one of them to die from it! (Death by comedy channel, lmao)!

  • With Get Famous installed, getting Hysterical is incredibly easy for a Geek Sim who streams or records videos with Drones, since Geeks get a HUGE +10 Happy Moodlet while recording/streaming with a Drone.

Since it only takes a combination of +15 Playful, including boosts by Happy, that puts them only 5 away from Hysteria!

Even other Sims can become Hysterical easily, given the right combination of Moodlets, especially counting boosts from having an Excellent Holiday, eating really good food/drinks, and beautiful decoration.

As it is now, playing a Goofball Sim is basically a ticking time bomb of death by over-happiness.
+15 Playful is easier than ever to attain. Unfortunately, the only way to be safe from this is to either be a Ghost or a Vampire, as they're immune to emotional deaths.
Or you could just get a mod that removes Hysterical deaths, but eh!
  • @ladysweettart, there was another thread about this just a few days ago, so you are not alone at all. The mother in my sim household died several times over the course of a few sim weeks after twin toddlers joined the household...always when I was not actively watching her and right after she spent time with the toddlers. She was getting the playful emotion from playing with the toddlers.

I use MCCC, so I turned off emotional deaths for the time being.
  • Yeah, the combination of warm clothing and cute toddlers seems to lead to sims dying from hysteria. A tad extreme... I'm hoping the emotions will get toned down a bit soon!

Same. I mean, I can understand why Sims would be happy from tasty food or comfortable furniture but I don't understand why they're happy just because some random picture is in the room. At least the moodlets are helpful for when I want to kill Sims of laughter.
  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed it! I actually somewhat like that there is the emotional death aspect (though I acknowledge it's not at all realistic), but I think it should happen when it really is an emotion that is extreme (meaning it should almost always take more than one thing causing the base emotion to get them there).

I also from the beginning have taken issue with the fact that hysteria deaths are amplified by doing all the "right" things in the game (keeping your sims' environment nice, serving them good food, keeping their needs filled). To me it really feels in a way like it is a punishment to players who are good at taking care of their sims.
  • Yeah, my Sims have been way too "playful" lately and I have to keep calming them down. I'm just trying to get their needs full so I can spend the day doing other stuff with them, but just having their needs met means more "happy" buffs. And of course, the evil decorations that send every Sim into elation adds to the problem consistently. I really wish they would remove those default happy buffs so we could have our Sims in a state of "Fine" a lot more.
