my sim's mother's ghost is roaming around the house, which is pretty normal since her urn's in one of the rooms, so nothing was out of the ordinary... until she pulled out a guitar and began playing. ...

Also, check your household inventory in build/buy because sometimes sims who've passed on have their things moved to there. Its possible that you still have a copy of her guitar in there. For some reason my books and journals and the like sometimes move to household inventory when a sim dies. I know that's not the point, but it'd be a guitar you don't have to buy again if you have a sim who ever gets interested. They could have mom, gran, great gran, etc...'s guitar. :)
