I bought majority of the publisher first party on their respective storefront. Just because I primarily used steam doesnt mean i would rebuy all my game on steam that I already bought on Origin or Uplay.
i think their main purpose is to attract a diehard steam fans to their games, because some people have this policy or mindset "no steam no buy" ever since the epic games fiasco.
